Who is it for?

Speech and Language Therapists, Allied Health Professionals, Nursing staff or any other professionals with an interest in supporting breastfeeding and lactation.

What will you learn?

This is an introductory course to develop theoretical competencies in neonatal and infant feeding specifically in the area of breastfeeding and lactation. The teaching will be relevant to neonatal, acute and community settings.

The course content will include:

  • Anatomy and physiology of the breast and lactation

  • Feeding and suck development

  • The benefits of breast milk

  • Dysphagia and associated challenges with breastfeeding

  • Supporting latch, positioning and attachment to optimise breastfeeding

  • Tube weaning while establishing breastfeeding
